Lucy Camden is the middle child of the Camden family, which causes her all kinds of problems. Never mind the fact that she has to live in the shadow of her older, more athletic, and (as Lucy sees it) more popular sister! In many ways, Lucy and Mary are total opposites. And when it comes to siblings, opposties definately do not attract!
Mary is a member of the basketball team. Lucy is on the cheerleading squad. Mary is something of a loner and has few friends. Lucy is outgoing and personable and has lots of pals to hang out with. Mary hasn't been much interested in dating. She's more content with being a good friend to Wilson. Even though Lucy is younger than Mary, she already had a pretty intense relationship with a boy.
Lucy is much more "boy crazy" than Mary. while Mary refuses to be anything but herself, even to impress guys, lucy will do whatever's necessary to enter the dating scene. Of course, her parents are there to keep her social life in check!
But these two sisters can agree on at least a couple of issues. For one, they both like to drive Matt crazy. (Lucy actually idolizes her older brother, though she would never admit it). Also, both Mary and Lucy are able to set aside their differences and conspire to get something they want, like access to the family car, a trip to the mall, or a double date.
After some typical early adolescent awkwardness, Lucy has blossomed into a graceful cheerleader. Gifter with a beautiful singing voice, she is a memeber of the church choir. Her love life has been put on hold since the birth of the twins. Although she's not happy about the fact, she would never shirk her family resposiblities. At heart, Lucy is a loving, sensitive, and goodhearted girl who is greatly looking forward to growing up.
Lucy is played by BEVERLEY MITCHELL, a talented actress with a big secret. Beverley, who plays Mary's younger sister, is really older than Jessica Biel! Her birthday is January 22, 1981.
Is it hard for the 18-year-old actress to play someone younger than herself?
According to Beverley, it is harder to play a member of a big family than it was to play someone younger.
"I've always been an only child, and now I have lots of brothers and sisters," the actress explained. "I cannot picture so many kids and just one bathroom."
As a 15-year-old honor student-and real-life cheerleader-from Southern California, Beverley already had an impressive list of film and television projects under belt before she joined the cast of 7th Heaven. She also had a very unususal start in show business.
One day when she was four, Beverley was throwing a tantrum at the mall. A talent agent approached her and asked if she wantted to be an actress when she grew up. Beverley thought about it for a minute-and-and decided she didn't want to wait!
Her road from typical Califronia kids to Hollywood star was a very short one. Her first professional gig was an AT&T commercial, and many other commercials followed, including two for the Walt Disney videos Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp. But what proved to be the pivotal role for Beverley came in a memorable Oscar Mayer commercial. She played a girl who complained that her bun was too long for her hot dog.
From there, Beverley went on to play a seven-year-old on the popular daytime drama Days of Our Lives. (That time, she was playing her real age!)
After that, television roles came thick and fast. Beverley appeared in Quantum Leap, Baywatch, Melrose Place, Big Brother Jake, Phenom, and The Faculty. She also co-starred in several made-for-television movies, including White Dwarf and the mini series Sinatra.
Later, Beverley starred in a trilogy of television movies, Mother of Bride, Baby of the Bride, and Children of the Bride.
Before long, Beverley had made the jump to the big screen, where she played in two theatrical films-The Crow: City of Angels and Killing Obsession.
Except for the size of her real family Beverley thinks she has much in common with the character she plays in 7th Heaven. Like Beverley herself, Lucy Camden is "sensitive, she doesn't want people to be mad at her, and she relly cares about others."
Beverley showed some of that caring when the pilot episode of 7th Heaven was completed. To celebrate the event, she bought gifts for everyone in the cast and on the production crew.
"I like shopping," Beverley told 16 magazine.
Beverley is also a talented artist. She's into crafts and has made a number of gifts for her friends and fellow cast memebers.
In her spare time, Beverley likes to go horseback riding or in-line skating (look out, Jessica Biel!). She also enjoys soccer, basketball, swimming, and playing with her cats, Tigger and Casper.
Beverley's beautiful singing voice comes in handy when she plays Lucy. In recent episodes, Lucy has been called upon to sing the newborn twins to sleep, making for some of the most tender moments in 7th Heaven.
Beverley's role model is actress Jodie Foster. She also likes to watch Winona Ryder and admits to having a crush on actor Sean Connery. "I think he's so masculine," she has said.
One of her most exciting moments came in 1998, when she won a Young Artist Award-Leading Young Actress-for Best Performance in a TV Drama or Comedy Series.
One of the most traumatic events in Beverley's young life-the death of a close friend in a traffic accident-was tranformed into a powerful episode of 7th Heaven.
